Fully waterproof in normal conditions. Felt shingles are a standard roofing material used on buildings, not just garden structures — a properly laid shingle roof sheds water reliably. The roof pitch ensures water runs off rather than pooling.

The timber frame can accommodate standard electrical conduit and junction boxes. Any electrical work within the structure should be carried out by a qualified electrician — the timber frame is a straightforward environment to work in.

A covered structure attached to the house is more likely to require planning permission than an open pergola. The rules depend on size, position and local authority. Checking before ordering is advisable — particularly in conservation areas or where the property already has previous extensions.

The structure is open at the sides in its standard configuration. Timber screening panels can be added to some or all of the open sides — ask about this option when ordering.
