Yes. Every motorised awning comes with a handheld remote, and you can add smart control so it runs from an app on your phone. You can put it out before you step onto the patio, or bring it in from work if the weather turns. Smart home compatibility is available on selected models for fully hands-free control.

An optional wind sensor picks up strong gusts and retracts the awning automatically, so it's protected even when nobody's home. Awnings are built mainly for sun and shade. They'll cope with a light shower, but you should retract them in heavy rain or high winds. If you want rain cover all year round, a veranda or pergola awning may suit you better.

Yes. Shading south- or west-facing patio doors and windows stops a lot of the sun's heat before it reaches the glass, so the rooms behind stay noticeably cooler on hot afternoons. It also stops flooring, sofas and garden furniture fading. Because it retracts, you get all your natural light back in autumn and winter.

Absolutely. Many of our awnings can be specified with integrated LED lighting and infrared heaters, so you'll actually use the patio after the sun goes down. Add a drop-down valance or side screen for extra privacy and shelter from low sun or a breeze, and it becomes a proper outdoor room for dinners, drinks and long summer evenings.

It depends on how you use your garden. An awning is ideal if you mainly want shade on sunny days and an open sky the rest of the time, because it folds neatly away against the wall. A veranda gives you permanent, year-round rain cover. Plenty of customers aren't sure which suits them, so we're always happy to talk it through.
