A roof that changes its mind as often as the weather

A fixed roof makes one decision on the day it goes up and holds it for twenty years. The Titan does not. Its double-layer louvres open to let the sun through, angle to cut the glare off a table without going dark, and close into a weatherproof roof when the rain arrives. The same terrace works at midday in July and at eight in the evening in October, which no fixed structure manages.

Freestanding on its own posts, or wall mounted to save two of them, both adjusted by hand. The LED Motorised model is the one that adds a remote and lighting built into the frame.

What is the difference between the three Titan formats?

The frame, the louvres, the finish and the drainage are identical across all three. Freestanding stands on its own four posts and can sit anywhere on a suitable base. Wall mounted fixes along one side to the house, which removes two posts and brings the structure tight against the building. Both of those are hand-operated. LED Motorised is the freestanding frame with a remote-controlled motor driving the louvres and lighting integrated into the frame, and it is the only motorised model in the range.

Does the roof actually keep the rain out?

Yes. When the louvres are closed they overlap into a continuous double-layer roof rather than simply sitting side by side. The rain runs into an integrated channel and is carried through the frame and down the legs, so water does not pool on top of the louvres and does not spill off the front edge. It is a weatherproof roof when closed and an open slatted frame when you want it to be, which is the whole argument for a louvred pergola over a fixed one.

What sizes can I have, and how far can it span?

Freestanding runs from 2.4m x 2.4m up to 9m x 3m, with squares and rectangles through the range and depths to 3.6m. Wall mounted and LED Motorised are offered in the most popular sizes rather than the full set. The maximum span between posts is 4m, so on the wider structures an intermediate post carries the run. If you are unsure which size suits the space, that is exactly what the appointment is for.

What base does it need?

A flat, solid, load-bearing surface. Concrete is ideal, and properly laid paving on a compacted sub-base works well. Expansion bolts are supplied for fixing the posts down. What it cannot sit on is grass, gravel, decking that flexes, or paving laid loose on sand, because the fixings need something substantial to hold into. We check the base at the appointment and tell you plainly if it needs work first.

How much maintenance does it need?

Very little. Aluminium does not rot, rust or swell, so there is no staining, painting or annual treatment of the sort a timber pergola needs. The TIGER Drylac powder coating resists flaking and fading, and the UV protection keeps the colour stable in heat. Washing the frame and louvres down two or three times a year with warm soapy water and clearing leaves out of the drainage channel in autumn is the whole of it.
