The smaller footprints suit a two-seat corner outside a back door, while 4.2m and 4.8m take a full dining set or a hot tub with room to move around it. When you choose a polycarbonate roof kit, a discreet five degree pitch is built into the structure. It is shallow enough that the veranda still reads as square from the ground, and enough to move rainwater off the sheets rather than letting it pool on them. Sheets come in clear, opal or bronze, with brown or white glazing bars to match or contrast with the timber.

The wall plate fixes to a sound house wall in brick, block or rendered blockwork, with the outer posts standing on the decking base. Every fixing for the structure itself is supplied, but the wall fixings are not, because the correct anchor depends on what you are fixing into. Check what your wall is built from before buying them.

It is not maintenance-free. The pressure treatment protects against rot and fungal decay inside the wood, but the finish on the outside weathers, so plan on re-treating with a suitable exterior timber stain every two to three years. Between times, brush the frame down, sweep the decking, and keep leaves and soil away from the base of the posts where damp sits.
