The cassette awning that stays out of the way

Most patio awnings are sized for a wide terrace. The Smaila is not. It was drawn for balconies and compact patios, where every centimetre of projecting hardware is noticed, and it carries a 24.8cm cassette with the fixing material hidden behind it.

What you give up in scale you keep in specification. Motor drive is standard, the pitch adjusts from 5° to 40°, and the LongLife arms carry a ten-year warranty. It mounts to a wall, a ceiling or between rafters.

Small Space, Full Specification
The Smaila is not a stripped-back version of a bigger awning. Motor drive, the wind lock safety device and the LongLife arm are all standard, and the fully enclosed cassette protects the fabric and the mechanism between seasons.

Light And Low Sun
LED spotlights or a warm-white strip can be built into the cassette, and the VarioShade valance drops a further metre of fabric to deal with sun that sits below the awning in the late afternoon.

It starts at 2m wide with a 1.5m projection, and the cassette is only 24.8cm deep by 15.5cm high, so it suits balconies and narrow side terraces where a standard patio awning would overwhelm the space.

Motor drive is standard on every Smaila. A crank drive is available instead if you would rather not run power to it, and a solar drive is offered on the VarioShade valance.

It is a second, drop-down section of fabric that extends a further metre from the front bar. It deals with low sun in the late afternoon and early evening, which a horizontal awning cannot shade, and it gives you privacy from neighbouring balconies.

The Smaila is rated to wind scale 5 on the Beaufort scale, which is a fresh breeze with small trees swaying. Above that it should be retracted; the wind lock safety device comes as standard to hold it steady within its rating.

Yes. The optional wall gap profile closes the gap between the cassette and the wall with upper and lower sealing profiles, which stops light and rain getting behind the awning. It needs a level mounting surface, so we check that at survey.
